Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are students required to wear uniforms?

A: No! We want our students comfortable and ready to learn without any sensory distractions from their clothes. The main focus at Flint is education, not appearances.

Q: Why is the school only four days a week?

A: For several reasons. One is that it is important that our students have plenty of time to spend with their families doing enriching activities and making memories. Another is that, due to the amount of work required from our teachers to individualize each lesson, they need the extra day to prepare and be refreshed.

Q: Why is there so little homework?

A: So often homework places an unnecessary burden of stress on students and families who have already had a full day and need time in the evening to relax and enjoy each other. We do not assign any regular homework in our Grammar School, which is grades Pre-K through 7th, although those students may occasionally have a fun project that they may complete at home. Our Upper School students (grades 8th-12th) have minimal homework assignments in order to help them develop the skill of managing their time wisely and working independently.

Q: Do Flint students take standardized tests?

A: No. We do not participate in STAAR testing system. Our Upper School students take the CLT exam, which is a classically-based alternative to tests such as the SAT and ACT, but no other testing is given on campus. Older students are given preparation and guidance in signing up for other college entrance examinations.

Q: Is the school accredited?

A: No. We have not found an accreditation program that would allow us to keep some of our key philosophy intact, such as working until mastery instead of assigning failing grades. This does not hinder our graduates from getting into the colleges of their choice, however! We have had students go on to a range of public and private colleges including The University of Texas at Arlington, Dallas Christian College, Oklahoma Christian University, Oklahoma City University, Tarrant County College, and many more!

Q: Why are there so many animals at the school?

A: Having animals around has helped us create an atmosphere that reduces anxiety and encourages mental and emotional health. We have several pets who live on campus, such as our 60+ year old African Tortoise, Ben Tu, for example! In addition, many of our teachers bring their own dogs to school regularly, making them a part of the classroom.

Q: Since Flint is a Christian school, are families and students required to be Christians in order to attend?

A: No. Our staff is Christian, and we incorporate Christian values and faith into the curriculum. Students will participate in Bible studies as part of their day, however being a Christian is not a requirement of enrollment.
